With the holiday season upon us, small retail businesses are thinking about one thing: holiday sales! For florists, Christmas is a hugely important selling season.
However, Christmas is also the perfect time to give something back to the community that supports you all year long! UFN has compiled a list of ideas that you can use to spread holiday cheer this winter - and increase foot traffic to your shop at the same time!
1. Organize a food drive.
Collect non-perishable items at your shop, to be donated to a local food pantry. Give a wrapped rose to each person that drops off two or more cans of food (don’t forget to attach your business card)! Need help finding a local food pantry? Check out this resource to see where you can donate in your community.
3. Offer a coupon.
Email last year’s holiday customers a fun coupon code, like “Merry16” for 16% off, to inspire them to come back again. Encourage them to share the email and coupon with family and friends to spread the holiday cheer!
4. Include a free gift.
Add a free gift to orders delivered during a certain date range, like December 20 - 24. The gift could be anything from a small box of chocolates to a Christmas ornament of your choosing - get creative!
5. Donate arrangements to a local organization.
Create a set of small, festive arrangements, and donate them to a local organization like a nursing home or hospital. Spread holiday cheer to those who need it most!
6. Host a face painter.
Hire a local face painter to spend a few hours at the shop - don’t forget to promote your event on social media and even with local news sources! Considering offering tea or coffee for parents, as well.
7. Give to charity.
Create a special holiday product, and donate a percentage of the proceeds to a local charity. Make sure to promote that product on social media and in emails! Want to find a local charity? Head on over to JustGive.org to find a local charity, or CharityNavigator.org to find specific charities for what you are passionate about.
8. Display holiday art.
Ask local artists if they’d like to display holiday-themed pieces at your shop. You could even host an “opening night” reception for your holiday art show!
9. Hold a contest.
Have customers stop by the store wearing their ugliest holiday sweaters! Take photos, hold a random drawing or a vote, and select a winner. Announce the results and prizes on social media!
10. Offer photo ops with Santa.
Have the big man himself, Santa, make an appearance at your shop! Set up a special area to take photos in front of a festive holiday background.
11. Stay open for special holiday hours.
Extend your hours into the evening for last-minute shoppers to stop by after they’ve finished work! Offer a free gift with purchase or a special “Midnight Madness” coupon. You’ll save the day for holiday procrastinators!
12. Promote a “gift for you” offer.
Give each shopper a small free gift - such as a wrapped rose or ornament - for them to keep just for themselves! Give them a “me” moment in the midst of their holiday shopping.
